Drug Monograph Search Redesign

  • UI Design

Redesigned the search functionality for a drug monograph application to improve user experience and accessibility. The final deliverables included a new search interface with an added AI search option, as well as a more intuitive way to display search results. The homepage reduces clutter and the drug monograph has a fresh and modern redesign. I sat in on research sessions with users to gather feedback and insights that informed the design decisions.

Note: Some projects have been redacted or modified to protect confidential client information. Certain names, data, branding, and assets have been altered while preserving the design process and outcomes.

AI-Powered Search

Users can ask questions about a drug or enter a standard search term and get instant, relevant answers.

Redesigned Experience

Reduced visual clutter and improved information hierarchy for a cleaner look and feel.

Streamlined User Journey

Improved user click journey to make it easier for users to find the information they need.

The Challenge

The original website design was cluttered with links and panels that users were not interacting with. There were also two search bars, one for standard search queries and one for questions. The client wanted to implement AI into their search functionality and have it be accessible throughout their website, from the homepage to the drug monograph.

The Solution

I redesigned the search experience around primary user needs and integrated concepts for AI accessibility in multiple areas of the site. I simplified the homepage and reduced the amount of steps and clicks to get to the information users needed.

Key Decisions

  • Consolidated the two search bars into one, more intuitive search bar. Users can still toggled between AI assisted search and traditional search, depending on their preferences.
  • Simplified the homepage to only contain the search bar and streamlined the user journey from search to search results to the drug monograph. Medical professioals prioritized less clicks to access information in a fast paced environment.
  • Explored navigation options and tested top navigation vs side navigation to determine the most effective approach for the user experience.
  • Updated the overall design to help the client remain competitive in the market.
